Diary of Lawrence Hammond of Charlestown, Mass., soldier and recorder of deeds. Entries for 17 Mar. 1677 to 6 Aug. 1678 note deaths in Boston and New England. Diary from 9 Mar. 1688 through 8 Aug. 1694 provides accounts of weather; elections; news of skirmishes with both the French and Indians at various locations; daily sailings and voyages; and contemporary news and politics, including witchcraft trials and executions, and the change in the government from the Dominion of New England to individual charters following the capture of Sir Edmund Andros. Also, medical receipts showing the "crude ideas that prevailed more than two centuries ..." before Hammond.
